Reading of opera roles

How is a new opera score to be approached, and what sight-reading mechanisms and immersion into the artistic, literary, linguistic and historical context are to be engaged in studying operas? The session will seek to provide young singers the tools to become self-sufficient within these various facets of their art.

Presentation

The challenge of a new score:
taking on a new score at times seems arduous—foreign languages, rhythmic difficulties, intervals that appear complicated, an unknown style etc.
This new workshop session of the Voice programme, in connection with the François Lang Music Library, proposes to help young singers at the beginning of their careers to acquire the mechanisms of sight-reading by becoming aware of the artistic, literary, historical and linguistic contexts that make it possible to delve more readily into a new work. It also aims to develop the curiosity of young singers, of whom wide-ranging knowledge is expected today, in order for them to be more self-reliant. Pronunciation as well as vocal style will be treated in depth, emphasizing the differences between various cultures.
