The challenge of a new score:
Taking on a new score sometimes seems daunting, with foreign languages, rhythmic difficulties, intervals that seem complicated, unfamiliar styles, etc…
This new training session within the Voice Programme of the Royaumont Foundation proposes to help young singers at the beginning of their careers to acquire sight-reading mechanisms by becoming aware of the artistic, literary, historical and linguistic contexts allowing them to become more quickly immersed in the a new work. It also intends to develop curiosity in young singers, of whom extensive knowledge is expected today, so that they may become increasingly self-reliant.
In 2010, the first session will provide a discovery of Slavic music for one voice-piano duo as well as four individual singers. The young artists participating as a duo will be able to study song cycles by Russian and Czech composers. Pronunciation as well as vocal and piano style will be treated in depth, emphasizing the differences among these cultures which seem so close to each other. The singers participating individually will be able to study opera roles and representative songs within these two musical languages.
These sessions will be led by Irène Kudela, pianist and role coach, choral conductor and linguist. These various competencies have taken her to the leading theatres and concert halls, sought-after as much for her musical as for her linguistic skills (she speaks seven languages). She also teaches in the Atelier Lyrique of the Paris Opera and the Hochschule in Frankfurt. In addition, she is frequently a guest in musical discovery programmes on television and radio.
