The 2012-2013 session of Transforme, headed by the choreographer Myriam Gourfink, is intended for 9 choreographers wishing to give form to their own language by delving into poetry, various corporal languages and another coming from the dance: Laban Notation.
Through conferences, exchanges and workshops, the goal will be to set forth movement in language, creating mental images of it at the abstract level before putting it into practice. The proposals will come about within a permanent dialogue between conceptualization and practice.
At the conclusion of the four sessions each choreographer will propose a solo, a duet or a trio with guest dancers-in-training.
Throughout the course of study the participants will be accompanied by presenters
> who will help them become more aware of the weight of words — Catherine Contour through the tool of hypnosis, Jean-Michel Espitallier in his capacity as a writer;
> others with them will analyse corporal language—Thomas Greil, Body Mind Centering®, Gianna Dupont and Myriam Gourfink via the transmission of the Yoga of Energy;
> others still will have them discover a language emanating from thinking on contemporary dance—Noëlle Simonet and Laban Notation.
Marcella Lista, art historian, will lecture on the Dada movement and in particular the personages Valeska Gert and Raoul Hausmann. Phil Barnard, doctor in neurosciences, will supplement these offerings presenting a modelization of our mental architecture, he will be assisted by Scott deLahunta who will set forth the connection between Choreography and Cognition.
Myriam Gourfink will present her research and scores using Laban Notation. She will show how everyone can take up this form of language in personal work.
The course of study will commence in the first half of August 2012 with a session blending theory, practise and scientific input around language, corporal language, Laban Notation, choreographic composition and creation of scores. During the second session at the end of October and beginning of November participants will be seeking their own language to create a score. The third session in December 2012 will be devoted to the formalizing of this language and the realization of the scores. At the conclusion thereof the choreographers will choose the dancers with whom they will be working during the 4th session in March 2013 to put their project into practise.
The December 2012 and March 2013 residencies will conclude with a public presentation, Fenêtre sur cour[s], demonstrating the status of progress in the course.
At the conclusion of the last session, to the extent that certain processes reveal a singularity deserving accompaniment beyond the training curriculum, the PRCC is in a position to propose possible extensions.
