Presentation

The 2011-2012 session of Transforme, led by the choreographer Myriam Gourfink, is intended for 10 choreographers wishing to work on writing and composition, whether in a twosome with one of the 5 musician-composer participants coming from the Voix nouvelles curriculum (the contemporary music programme at Royaumont), or on their own.

It will have to do with choreographic writing as a source of invention for the dance. Through presentations, discussions or workshops, the aim will be to give body to movement within language, to conceive it at an abstract level before putting it into action. The proposals will be elaborated within permanent dialogue between conceptualization and practice.
At the close of these four sessions each choreographer will propose a solo, duo or trio.

The course will host Noëlle Simonet and Angela Loureiro, two specialists in notation and in Laban’s Theory of Effort, who will accompany the choreographer and composer participants throughout the duration of Transforme. Gianna Dupont will be present to enhance these contributions by instruction in the yoga of energy.
Myriam Gourfink will present her research and scores carried out starting from Laban Notation, and will show how everyone can make the latter his own with a view to his specific work.
Working from another angle, Daniel Zea, consulting composer, will accompany the sessions for questions of musical composition.

The course will open during the first half of August with a session based on Laban and choreographic composition that will mix theory, practice and philosophical input.
In the course of the second session (early November), the participants will be in search of their writing style.
The third session (mid-December) will be devoted to questions of writing and composition. At the lose of this the choreographers will choose the dancers with which they will work at the realization of their scores at the following session, during which the composers will for their part work with the instrumentalists.

The autumn and winter residencies will close with a public presentation, Fenêtre sur cour(s), demonstrating the status of the experimentation.

At the end of the last session, in as much as certain processes reveal a singularity that deserves to be accompanied beyond the workshop curriculum, the PRCC will be in a position to offer possible extensions.
