Introduction

The composer Zad Moultaka is in residency at Royaumont (2007 – 2009), where he is developing the Mezwej Ensemble, made up of musicians from oral tradition “Oriental” musical languages (Near and Middle East, but also middle and eastern Europe), and from European musical languages based on writing. Side by side with the annual creation program led with Mezwej, Zad Moultaka also directs musical training workshops in residency. After the Taksim workshops (2006 and 2007), the Arab music and electroacoustic writing workshop will explore Arab music forms in 2008, in a veritable spirit of creation, by appropriating this musical material, through instrumental practice and by means of electroacoustic techniques.
