The activity of the Center for Choreographic and Composition Research is mainly upstream from dance production. The latter should indeed be fueled by research and training work.
It mainly rests on choreographic experimentation, particularly in its specific relation to music.
Besides, the CRCC hosts the Susan Buirge Company in permanent residency.

La Compagnie de Susan Buirge La Compagnie de Susan Buirge has been in residency at the Royaumont Foundation since July 2000.
In 2002, Susan Buirge directed L’OEil de la forêt, a piece for 7 dancers – the result of Susan Buirge’s encounter with Canadian composer Jean-François Laporte and their joint experience in a semi-nomadic community in the Northern part of Québec.
This play - as well as Sas (remounted piece from 1982) – was shown within the framework of a programme titled La Route des Airs et des Eaux (The Road leading to Air and Water).
Another programme, Soli, was premiered in April 2005 within the framework of Festival Escales in the Val d’Oise region.
The last programme, realized with the English composer Jonathan Harvey, was premiered in March 2006 within the framework of Biennale Musiques en scène (Lyon), at the Toboggan Theater. Composed of two pieces, A l'abri des vents and At a Cloud Gathering, it gathers 6 dancers and the percussionnist Jean-Paul Bernard on stage.

Project PartnershipsA cultural meeting place between artistic and aesthetic fields, Royaumont hosts artists willing to cross their disciplines’ boarders and broaden their spaces of investigation.
With this open frame of mind, the Center for Choreographic and Composition Research collaborates with other sectors of the Royaumont Fundation to allow choreographers to meet composers.
Indeed, however close they may seem to be, dance and music artists often turn out to be hardly aware of each other.
Royaumont gives them the opportunity to meet and maybe merge – through the organisation of training sessions and research or creation projects.
As a result, on October, 9th 2004 and within the scope of the Royaumont music programme, two plays have emerged from these encounters : In Principio – Au Commencement by Choreographer Françoise Murcia and Composer Tiziano Manca as well as Théorème by Choreographer Barbara Sarreau and Composer-Musician Wu Wei.
These pieces were shown to celebrate the 10th anniversary feast of Susan Buirge’s Choreographic Composition Workshop and the 20th anniversary of Voix Nouvelles (New Voices).
