The Royaumont Foundation has long supported new generations of professional artists. It offers to round out their training, and to accompany them at the start of their careers, enabling them to broaden their professional experience, and even to reorient their activity. The Foundation’s training sessions are intended for singers, instrumentalists, composers, improvising musicians, and choreographers. The program that has been prepared for 2008, and which offers no less than 19 training sessions, has a wide variety of work themes and modes of accompaniment. This is because we are convinced that the artists of tomorrow will need to be able to perform in extremely diverse repertoires and participate in highly innovative projects. There will be a need for a constantly renewed dialogue between performers, researchers and creators. In order to carry out its programs, Royaumont can count not only on experienced masters but also a new generation of already-recognised musicians, who are desirous of sharing the experience acquired in their respective domains. In addition, the Foundation can count on the presence of ensembles in residence at Royaumont, who are conducting three or four year projects that combine the study of repertoires with research, concerts in the abbey and on tour, as well as taking part in the training programmes. In 2008, seven such ensembles will be present. The Foundation makes it possible for all young professionals to enjoy optimal working conditions, in the serene surroundings of the old Abbey. In the case of several of the projects, the Foundation will strive to promote the artists by programming them in the Saison musicale concerts, as well as inviting them to take part in the productions and tours that follow certain training sessions, notably those of the Unité scénique. It also sends them abroad to other countries in the framework of exchanges, as with Voix Nouvelles.
