After studying in Berlin with Mary Wigman and at the Folkwang School's dance department, founded by Kurt Joos, she joins the Folkwang Dance Studio (1970-1973) under the artistic direction of Pina Bausch and takes over its direction until 1985.
At the same time, she begins her own choreographic work and within a few years, gains widespread international recognition with works such as Im Bade Wannen (1980), an interior monologue where she uses a bath-tub as a matrix, support and coffin, Danse mit einen Sofa (1980), Callas (1983), Marchandel (1987).
Invited by international companies as a guest choreographer (the Limón Company, the Nederlands Dans Theater), in the early nineties, she forms the Company of Susanne Linke and creates with seven male dancers Ruhr-Ort.
During the same period, she is artist in residence at the Hebbel Theater of Berlin. In 1994, with her partner Urs Dietrich, she founds a new company at the Bremer Theater and her works are presented in many countries.
In 2000-2001, the Choreographic Center in Essen is established under her artistic direction.
Since then, she works as a freelance choreographer: in 2003, the solo TanzDisTanz and, in February 2005, Ich bin… for the Paris Opera Ballet.
Susanne Linke was invited to direct the Repertory Workshop 2005 about "the dance of expression".
