“For three years, Mozart has invaded my life” reported François Mauriac in 1937, specifying “his music precedes and often accompanies my work of which almost every evening, before I fall asleep, it becomes the marvelous reward”. The novelist, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1952, would have enjoyed the afternoon ahead.
The Royaumont Foundation is investing the park of its château in Vémars, located in the north of the Val d’Oise, in the Roissy Pays de France agglomeration community, to make the music of the Salzburg genius resound there. The enfant terrible of classical music loved wind instruments. He composed for them a long suite, the Serenade number 10 in B flat major (KV 361)<\/em>This work, known as the “Gran Partita”, is exceptional in every way: its abundant number of instruments (13!), its inexhaustible poetry (nearly 50 minutes without a moment’s boredom) and its symphonic ambitions have made history. It is to the oboist Neven Lesage and his ensemble, Sarbacanes, that belongs the honor of modulating it gently on the vast lawns that the writer liked to cross. With a Mozart tune in mind, the public will then be able to visit the small museum that evokes Mauriac’s ties to Vémars and discover his office, his library and the beautiful collection of photographs gathered in his living room.
