In order to last, music needs to be passed on. The Royaumont Foundation and the department of Val d’Oise invite visitors to a great celebration of transmission: 57 amateur musicians of all ages will present what they have learned about the music of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance from teachers at the music school they attend, as well as from young professional artists, such as the flutist and violinist Valentine Lorentz.
This promising performer trained at Royaumont with Swiss David Chappuis, one of the world’s leading specialists in the work of the composer and bishop of Meaux Philippe de Vitry (1291-1361), and with Italian Patrizia Bovi, founder of the Micrologus ensemble. Throughout the year, Valentine patiently shared her knowledge with the musicians of the Cergy-Pontoise area, explaining in particular how she studies the rare manuscripts preserved in Europe and how ancient music is reflected in the mirror of our contemporary sensibility. Then she orchestrated this Sunday’s concert, under the banner of an anonymous ballad of the 14th century with a particularly emblematic title: ” Amor mi fa cantar ” (” Love makes me sing “). Biography

Valentine Lorentz

Valentine Lorentz is passionate about older repertoires through the bowed fiddle. Curious and attracted by the mix of genres, she participates in many choreographic and theatrical projects, and works regularly with puppeteers and storytellers. She has created several shows with the Ensemble Oneiroï and performs regularly on stage.
Prizewinner of the Royaumont Foundation, lecturer at the Philharmonie de Paris, she is also trained in Steiner-Waldorf pedagogy.

Sara Maria Fantini became interested in medieval music at an early age, studying lute and chitarrino techniques and participating in masterclasses held by some of the leading performers in the international scene; she is currently taking a Master’s degree in lute at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, under the direction of Marc Lewon. Since 2012, she has performed in Italy and Europe with various ensembles (Aubespine, Dialogo, Palin, Umbra Lucis). After a Bachelor’s degree in literature and a Master’s degree in musicology, she obtained a PhD in Romance philology at the University of Siena and at the EPHE in Paris.

Soprano Maud Haering has always been attracted to early music. She performs regularly in concert with the ensembles Discantus (B. Lesne), Correspondances (S. Daucé), the Amsterdam Baroque Choir (T. Koopman) and the Collegium Vocale Gent (P. Herreweghe). After a master’s degree in medieval music at the Sorbonne, she recently completed a master’s degree in baroque singing at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (Netherlands), where she studied with R. Dams, Peter Kooij, F. Aspromonte and R. Blaze. She is currently participating in the creation of a musical show based on Boccaccio’s Decameron .
