Presentation

The Mélodie et musique de chambre Cras-Duparc workshop, offered by the Fondation Royaumont and co-produced with the Bibliothèque musicale La Grange-Fleuret (BLGF), invites young musicians – singers and instrumentalists – to discover the works of composers Jean Cras and Henry Duparc, under the guidance of three great artists renowned for their interpretations of the French repertoire of the 19th century.th and twentieth centuries.

The relationship between Henri Duparc and Jean Cras is that of a master to his pupil. It’s the story of a composer in the prime of life who, despite having given up musical creation for himself, guided his young and only disciple along artistic paths, recognizing in him the “son of [his] soul”. In return, Jean Cras remained indebted throughout his life to the advice of his “beloved master”. Having never been able to choose between his vocation as a naval officer and his destiny as an artist, Cras left a lyrical and instrumental body of work nourished by his experience as a navigator, entirely open to an infinite horizon… The Mélodie et musique de chambre Cras-Duparc workshop, offered by the Fondation Royaumont and co-produced with the Bibliothèque musicale La Grange-Fleuret (BLGF), invites young musicians – singers and instrumentalists – to discover the works of these two creators, guided by three great artists renowned for their interpretations of the French repertoire of the 19th century.th and twentieth centuries. The practical lessons offered to the prizewinners by Stéphane Degout (baritone), Cédric Tiberghien (pianist) and Raphaël Pidoux (cello) were complemented by musicological contributions based in particular on sources preserved in the BLGF’s “Jean Cras” collection.
