Introduction

In 2004 Royaumont developed a creation program devoted to slam, and the way it relates to music and language. The first training workshop Slam / improvisation will be directed in 2008 by Dgiz and Médéric Collignon. Verbal improvisation is a special slam form, since normally the text is fixed before performance. Dgiz is one of the great slam performers / improvisers in the French language, while Médéric Collignon one of the most prolific improvisers of his generation, with a very personal approach to the relationship between the verbal and the musical. The workshop can therefore explore with them the poetic and rhythmical worlds of slam in an innovative way, and create a space where the sound-word and music model each other. The workshop will include an experiment Du griot au slameur, an encounter between folk tales and oral tradition music from Mali and Morocco, conducted simultaneously in 2008 by Dgiz and Médéric Collignon in Royaumont, Bamako and Agadir.
